Leaving Bids At A Local Auction 7.26.14

We were at a family reunion in Nebraska this past weekend.  We had a great time, but I was a little disappointed to be missing a good local auction.  Only two blocks from my house.  But my friendly local auctioneer said I could leave some bids.  I took photos so he would know exactly what I was leaving bids on, and here they are:

vintage wash stand - great lines

floor fan with great base

enamel top mid-century table

pair of antique stoneware planters

Ozark touristware pottery

vintage chalkboard needing TLC

newer Christopher Radko ornaments

funky pottery hanging light probably California made

So, was I able to purchase any of them in absentia?  A couple.  It sounded like things at the auction went pretty high.  I got the white washstand and the Ozark tourist pottery.  And -- Mr. Auctioneer threw in a cute little side table for me that was left behind.

Best Ever Chippy White Vintage Dresser

As promised, the greatest chippy white dresser, rescued from the basement 7.18.14....

Here is a "before" and "after" cleaning.
The only work that needed to be done on it was a good cleaning,
and waxing the drawer track.

TA-DA.  In all of it's white glory.

Loved the detail and patina on the pulls.
All but one drawer pull was in great shape.

Occasional hints of teal peeking out from under the white.
I wish all furniture redos were this easy.
I took this cutie in to my antique booth on Friday,
and it sold today (Sunday).

Some Great & Gross Basement Junk 7.18.2014

Back to tackling the unoccupied house of 24 years.  The June sale was just the upstairs, after all.  Time to prowl the moldy basement.   Sure, there was plenty of nasty stuff.  Most anything paper, fabric or wood was damaged or destroyed.  But if you can look past that... some of it was sooo coool.

This fun pair of sisters in charge of clearing the house had a dirty job on their hands.  By the time I arrived back from my Colorado vacation they had cleared out the majority of the grossness and were begging me to take some of what was left off of their hands. (Oh yeah, let me think twice about that.)

These were the items that landed on my front porch.

Great frames. Crocks / stoneware. Mirrors.  jewelry. Blue Mason jars. Chippy white dresser.  Walnut drop leaf table.  Awesome birdbath.  old bottles. Books. Collector spoons.  Oak Bench.  Wood crates with advertising. Scales. Old suitcase. Aqua fan. Great chippy dresser which I will reveal later. Enough junk to make me giggle with joy.  Enough to keep me busy cleaning and pricing for quite awhile.

And some of it landed on my new back patio.

It took three loads to get it all home.
(And a pulled muscle in my husband's back.)

You can barely see the old DeLaval sign on the right.
My husband snagged that for our back porch
before I could sell it.

Then I called in friends to help clear out some of what was left.
They drove away with a truck and trailer load of fun stuff.

Friday's Vintage Finds...A "Pop Up" Garage Sale 7.18.2014

I made the decision to sleep in (yeah, on a Friday garage sailing morning -- so shoot me.)  I staggered out of bed after 8 am -- way too late for any decent sailing.  Then I got a call from my early bird husband.  While out and about he ran into a "pop up" (unadvertised) garage sale.  They were still bringing out boxes when he called me at 8:30 am.

By then he was helping to bring out totes from the garage and had already started a pile for me.  Some fun stuff, including a great convex glass photo of three brothers.

Vintage faeries print, going to ebay.

Vintage fireside clock.  The description on ebay
says that the fireplace is supposed to light up --
I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Vintage Boy's Outfit

A vintage boy's outfit that we sold on ebay found a wonderful home with an AMAZING photographer who was kind enough to show me what she did with it.

Last Friday's Garage Sale Finds 7.11.14

One good garage sale.  That is all it really takes to make me happy.  And just one is where all these treasures came from last Friday.

The blue item laying at the bottom is a hand saw
that is painted with a winter pattern.
Nice kitschy item for Christmas.

This is a tin Russian-made toy.
In good working condition.
I thought it was the best item of the day.
But I was wrong...

My husband scored this "LOOK BETTER,
FEEL BETTER" vintage curved barbershop sign.
It will be heading to ebay soon.

End of June Vintage Finds and Redos

Clicked a few picts the end of June of items I was getting ready to take in to my antique booth --

Cute little side table that I snagged for $2.
1. Quick coat of white homemade chalk paint.

2. Second coat was a linen colored chalk paint by Chick Paint.
3. Some distressing with a palm sander.
I like both the white and wood showing through.

Also took in this great vintage frame.
Dry brushed some white on it to bring out
the ribbon /bow motif.

I like how the original gold peeks through.

Wheelbarrow Crazy

Wheelbarrows are the outdoor equivalent of cookie jars.  You want to think twice before you start to collect them.  They take up a lot of space.

But who can resist the lines and patina?

I actually had THREE  wheelbarrows
stacked together at the Outdoor Store...

...for a few hours, and then...

both the orange one and the red baby one sold.

Now this one and the next are waiting to
"go to market".
