A New Heart Die Cut Toy

I am not really sure what inspired me, maybe it was

a Cupid's arrow.  I just knew that I wanted to buy a heart die-cut thingie. 

I envisioned ahead of time the pile of vintage page

hearts that would look so awesome. (And I was right.)

I was in a punching frenzy when I brought it home.

No vintage piece of paper was safe.

I love how they look together.

I hung some by ribbons in my vintage booth....

and scattered some around just for the romance of it.

Vintage Valentine Bonanza

I purchased a box of vintage / antique valentine's at an auction this past summer.  Summer is a super busy time for me, so I squirreled away the box without really looking through it.  I was pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago when I finally had time to look through the box.

I was pleased at the age of the Valentine Cards.

Most of them date from 1913-1924.

I was pleasantly surprised at the condition.

Only a couple were in good or fair condition,

the rest were "very good."

I was surprised at the variety.

Die cut; mechanical; pop out; stand up; lithographed; German.

This one is mechanical and made in Germany.

I got several of these "multi-layer" valentine's

with paper doilies.

Here is my favorite one.

Pop up with honeycomb.

All are heading to ebay in the next couple of weeks.

2016 St Joseph MO Antique Show -- My BOOTH

I participated in the St Joseph MO Antique Show over Valentine's weekend.  Decent weather and a great turn out!

Probably my favorite piece that I brought.  Still available

and probably heading to eBay.

A nod to the holiday.

Fuelling was a St. Joseph MO bottling company.

Funky suitcase on hairpin legs,

it was fun to see how excited the new owner was to take it home.

Suitcases were a huge seller last year,

not so much this year.

My vintage shopping cart is also still available.

Love the patina on the dough bowl.

More Junk Art Mosaic Hearts

A few days ago I did a tutorial on adding vintage junk to frames (click here to see the "how to".  I had included photos of frames that the ladies had made in the class that I taught.  This post is documenting some of the frames that I made myself.

This is the first frame where I attempted to use

wood filler as a surface for the "junk."

It was a little chunky and smelled bad.

But it gave me some good experience on the type of "junk"

that looked good on the frame.

I LOVE the back of watches where you

can see all the little gears.

The first finished frame.

After I perfected the right wood filler

I experimented with applying it to different surfaces.

Wood was a given.  But would it work on metal?

You betcha.

This frame started out as a Michael's 99 cent bare wood frame.

I enjoyed finding the right vintage Valentine to add to it.

  

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine #3

Heart Decorated Feedsacks On Ebay

I went to my first auction of the year last Saturday.   I know before I go...I give myself a little pep talk...I try to slow my heart rate.  Then I hear the auctioneers bewitching chant...and bid too much.  It happens at the first auction of every year.  I guess it takes me awhile to get my game on.

I ended up with quite a lot of feed / flour sacks

with great graphic advertising.

You'll be seeing more in the days to come.

There were actually a few that had already been

upcycled, like the above aprons.

Sold the two together for $22.

Having a soft heart for vintage hearts,

I hurried to get photos of these before V-Day.

Bought for $2, sold for $20.

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine #2

A few days ago my husband surprised me.   I came downstairs one morning to find Valentine chalkboard #1 (click here to see #1) looking back at me.  The windows started out as a roadside rescue (click here to see that blog.) No surprise when I took #1 into my booth and it sold immediately.  It took about a week for me to beg and plead (and bake) my husband into doing Valentine chalkboard #2.  He took it into my booth on his way to work yesterday, without any photo documentation. 

So I took a few pics of it today on my way to do errands -- and glad I did -- it sold a few hours later.

Two more window chalkboards left.  I'll have to do some major baking (I'm thinking carrot cupcakes with cream cheese icing) to get a chalkboard ready in time for the St-Joseph-MO-Antique-Show&Vintage-Market over Valentine's weekend.

Sweet Valentine Heart Antiques

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays.  Pause.  Thinking.  IT IS my favorite holiday.  It does not have the pressure or stress of Christmas.  No judging if you do not have time to decorate for Valentine's Day.  Just sweet, pure, unadulterated sentiment.
Maybe that explains why I have always been attracted to vintage heart items.

This is a vintage broom holder.

It gives me pleasure just looking at it's sweet lines.

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine

So, in December my true love gave to me: seven old windows.  Three sold over the Christmas season and I hadn't gotten around to doing another design on one yet.  Well, my husband surprised me with one this week. 

Yeah, he used to be an art teacher.

Can you tell?

Of course I am still selling it,

but I got to enjoy it for awhile.
