Selling Vintage Buttons & Mason Jars

Still working through my auction finds of July 1.
I got several bags and tins of buttons, which I always sell in clear
mason jars.  Pint jars sell for $9. And this time I used button cards as price tags.

My husband recently unearthed some old silverplate
flatware which I had stashed in the attic.
I sold jars of flatware for $6 each.

Old bottle caps in jar sold for $9.
And anything else that I can cram in mason jars
gets sold that way too.  Easy for the buyer to look
at and they get a bonus jar.

I will sell these button cards separately.
Top one may be my all-time favorite --
how easy to make cute button cards like that one!

Saturday's Vintage Finds 10.10.15

My husband and I had a quick and thorough junking morning last Saturday.

Paid $1, sold for $8.
First we hit a couple garage sales, which produced a couple of boxes of Christmas ornaments including these.

Then we went to a Tiny Town Saturday morning auction.  Which produced 100 vintage battery oil bottles, all of which had been "dug".  If you are not familiar with the term, it meant I had to hand wash each and every little bottle.

Sold 5 for $27.
But they turned out well.

We also snagged several jars of buttons,

Sold for $12 on ebay.
and a circa 1900 piano book with 12 full-page illustrations.

Vintage Buttons On Ebay

Yes, this is one of my annual January ebay auction categories.  I am not a serious button collector -- although I do have one jar of "special buttons".  I am notorious for selling everything or anything for the right price, so although I am attracted to these buttons -- I do have a child I'm helping through college -- so they are going on the ebay auction block.

These flower pot buttons have all the bells and whistles --
bakelite,
on original card,
and cute as a button!
Sold on ebay for $46.

Also bakelite, and two-toned to boot.

Another card of bakelite tested buttons!
If forced to choose, bakelite buttons would be my favorites.
The red and green bakelite buttons sold for $20.

Three cards of matching mother-of-pearl buttons.
Sold on ebay for $6.

Two cards of tiny glass buttons in excellent condition.
Sold on ebay for $5.

Sweet little ribbon buttons,
picturing them on a little girls' dress.
Sold on ebay for $5.

Vintage Family Jewels Tree #2 "Buttons & Pearls"

OK, so here is my second vintage costume jewelry Christmas tree:

This one was made from vintage pearl jewelry...

and some mother of pearl buttons.

Same Dollar Tree base as #1.

I experimented with different "bases" and hit on this depression glass custard.

Buttons On Ebay

I  photographed my buttons for ebay, one step closer to actually getting them listed.  I buy vintage buttons whenever I can find them cheap.  I love the look of the in a jar, in an old coffee tin, or poured out all over the table.  I don't collect them myself, but appreciate being the conduit which passes them on to others. I usually just sell them in jars at the antique mall, but I do try to pull out really nice ones to list on ebay about once a year.

Stacked Button Magnets

During some of the long, slow winter months I sorted through bags of buttons I had purchased. Most of them I put in decorative jars to sell.  I will be listing some of the better ones on ebay in the near future.  I had a few flat (not with convex top) buttons that were colorful and I knew I wanted to do something with stacking them.
The rings they show on pinterest I wouldn't wish on anyone, they take up about half a hands width.  The stacked button "flowers" need quite a few to make a bouquet look full. I already had some plain magnets -- so decided to just add a little pizzazz to the fridge.

Blue Hearts & The End Of My Blog

Early on during the corona virus, I did this project. When we put scalloped wood trim on the guest cottage door, we had some of the trim ...
