Junking Marathon Thursday

I travelled to Nebraska with a friend of mine
(didn't get her picture at all!)
We stayed with my dad and his wife,
and my sister showed up Thursday to visit.
I love this photo, my dad is telling the dog to look at the camera!

So, early Thursday morning we rolled out
to hit my dad's bi-annual neighborhood garage sales.
Major threat of rain, so not as many open as usual.

Remember, I am supposed to looking for outdoor stuff.
Because that is the only "junk" i am selling now.
So why did I get three stacks of plates?
Everybody knows dishes are not selling now.
But I got a set of six Audubon by Meakin.
To keep.  To use.

And four old ironstone "flowy" blue.
Not to keep, but so gorgeous.
And actually 6 longaberger plates (not shown)
but gold, which I would like to use at our new house.

An hour after arriving back home,
and getting unloaded from Nebraska ....
we had to do a pick up of  local on-line auction stuff I had won.
Like this giant carved morel mushroom. -- paid $13 for it.
I actually got some pretty awesome vintage outdoorsy
stuff from that auction, but we are keeping most of it.
So it stayed in (or on top of) the van,
which left with my husband this morning for our new southern property.

Metal pot scrubber came from on-line auction, paid $6 for it.
Stack of quilt blocks came from Nebraska garage sale.
Bought for $10, sold for $29.

In Nebraska I picked up this
Danish? Flemish? Swedish?
vintage bonnet.  I was trying to show how it looked....

but there is only one way to show off the "wings".
Going on ebay sometime after we only have
one house to worry about.
Purchased for $1, sold for $10 on ebay.

Last Weekend's Vintage Finds

Last Thursday I visited my father in Nebraska,
(and managed to visit several garage sales as well.)
This was the coolest item I bought -- a large sterling silver pendant.
After research, I think the purple stone is called charoite.
I will be listing it on ebay.
Paid $1, sold for $54 on ebay.

Saturday we picked up items that I had won at a local on-line auction.
I got this rag basket for $2 and ....

this Watering Can for $6
(probably due to the bullet holes.)

Burlington Railroad China Purchase

Last week I went on a buying trip to Lincoln.  The best item that I purchased was a box of vintage railroad china.

I had one little piece at home,
so I recognized the Violets & Daisies Pattern.

Manufactured by Syracuse China in the "Violets & Daisies" pattern used for CB&Q rail line.  The5 plates in the first photo are not marked with railroad stamp.
Early pieces carried the CB&Q RR backstamp, but later pieces by Syracuse didn't.

This little butter pat was the only piece I had owned previously.
It has the CB&Q backstamp (below), which railroad collector's drool over.

The butter pat and a couple of the plates were made by Buffalo China.  Most of my pieces were made by Syracuse China - other manufacturers of this pattern for CB&Q were Haviland Limoges, Buffalo & Shenango China.

These pieces are Marked : "Made expressly for the BURLINGTON ROUTE BY ONONDAGA POTTERY CO. SYRACUSE N.Y.  FURNISHED THROUGH T.M. JAMES  & Sons China CO Kansas City, Missouri O.P.Co.SYRACUSE China U.S.A".

All 16 pieces are on ebay this week.
I am anxious to see how it plays out.
All sold for $140.

My Lincoln Vintage Fall Finds 9.17.15

A few days ago I shared with you what Katie purchased from our fall Lincoln trip (click  here  to read that post).   But you don't have to feel sorry for me.  I scored some great finds, a few that I had to leave in Lincoln because we ran out of space in the van.  Here are some of the ones that made it home with me:

I'm sure I paid too much for this box panel, but the graphics sucked me in.
My pumpkin colored spindle table is behind it, and I didn't manage to
get a separate picture of it.

Old lunch tin.  LOVE the color.

This little antique table has it all.
Looks gorgeous from all angles.

Incredibly heavy in spite of the
frilly detailing.

Wonderful time-worn patina and
do you see that cabbage shaped finial?

Folk art airplane whirligig (with moss on the wings).

This was probably my favorite find.
Folk art is my favorite collectible.

"STEP INN"
So many fun details, and half the roof comes off for use as a dollhouse!

Lincoln Tale Of A Vintage Fall Fun Find 9.17.2015

While you get some peeks at Katie's treasures from Thursday, I'll tell you a little story:

Katie and I went to my Dad's bi-annual neighborhood sale in Lincoln Nebraska this week.  We scoured the neighborhood the night before to check out possibilities for Thursday.

We did a "drive by" in front of a house that had some mid-century dining room stuff on the curb.  That made us sit up and pay attention.  We spied some great looking rusty stuff in a pile by the garage.

I kicked Katie to the curb, and she finally found the guy around back in the process of cleaning out an outdoor area for a party.

The guy was a self-professed "collector" (aren't we all?) and had to purge his overflow in the backyard quickly for this weekend's luau (you should have seen the tiki-bar -- where was my camera?).  Hence the curbside mid-century table and chairs, and rusty pile in limbo.

A fairy tale ending...Yes, he was willing (anxious!) to part with the mid-century metal glider and wiry metal bench.  Katie and her keeper glider will live happily ever after.  My bench had to be left in Lincoln for now, but you can see what I brought home in a future post.

Look What I'm Keeping

I rarely keep anything that I buy while I'm out junking.  It's my business, so I don't have too much of a problem keeping an emotional distance from the items I buy.  Very rarely I have a hard time parting with something.   But...brown transferware is on my short "keeper" list.

I found this large set of dishes on my junking journey to Lincoln in April.  (Click here to read that post). It was a fundraiser yard sale, nothing was priced.  I asked about the dishes...big mistake.  She had me at "A pioneer couple from Nebraska used the money from their first wheat harvest for them..."

Really?  Like I need another set of dishes?  And then there was the price, I knew I couldn't pay what they were really worth.  She knew she couldn't get anything close to what they were really worth at a yard sale.  I ended up paying enough to make my wallet hurt a little, but not put me in the poor house.  I even suffered a little buyers regret for a few weeks, until I recently got back to Lincoln to pick them up (I had to leave some things at my dad's house because we bought so much!)

I opened up the boxes...
and instantly fell back in love again.

Got Junk? Last Weekends Vintage Finds

I do.  Have junk that is.  And loads of it.  Last Friday I went to Nebraska to fetch what I had left there in April (because of lack of room in the van.)  Click here to see post from that trip.

This is my favorite item that I bought for resale in Lincoln in April and just got it home.  It will decorate my yard until I figure out how to market it.

I loaded up the runoff from April and purchased more besides for a full load.

This is my favorite item that I bought in Lincoln last Friday.  This little dresser is about 15" tall and has amazing hand painted drawers.

I unloaded everything Friday night as soon as I got home.

Saturday morning my husband and I went to a small town city-wide garage sale event.

We came home with the second vanload of the weekend.

(With an emphasis on Christmas, which I love.)

We had about 10 minutes to unload that before I took off to an auction for the rest of the day.

I "only" picked up about half a load at the auction.
Over 20 frames.

These helpful young men helped me load.

There is stuff everywhere and in-laws coming next weekend.  Eek.

Tons of sorting / painting / pricing / stashing to be done.

We want to appear normal, after all.

Spring Junk Buying Trip To Lincoln

My dad and his wife live in Lincoln, twice a year their neighborhood hosts a weekend of garage sales.  Click here and here to see past Lincoln neighborhood sales. Traditionally it is a great opportunity to: take a road trip, visit my dad, buy some junk and eat good food.  Plus I always take a friend and have a lot of laughs.

This is the third Nebraska junking trip with Katie, how brave is she?

We arrived Wednesday night, and visited my friend Cindy.  We know her sale will be set up and ready to roll.  Usually that one stop makes it worth the whole trip, and this year she certainly did not disappoint.  (This is her husband Steve attaching treasures to the top of my van!)

We purchased about 1.5 vanloads of junk from her, problem is -- we only have the one van!  And there were two more days of junking ahead!

"Hey Dad!  Can I leave a few things with you?"

The next morning we rolled out early for our garage saling marathon.

We strapped even more to the top of the van.

We wrapped up about lunch time, just in time to enjoy a Nebraska tradition -- Valentino's Pizza.  This is where the fun traditionally ends...but this year it was only leg one of junking.   Stay tuned for part 2.

Blue Hearts & The End Of My Blog

Early on during the corona virus, I did this project. When we put scalloped wood trim on the guest cottage door, we had some of the trim ...
