Door Hardware From The CityWide

This is my favorite type of vintage door hardware --
victorian aesthetic (cool designs in what is usually brass).
It sells well too, especially when you have six matching.
Sold all for $36.

After I took this photo, I found four more.
Sold all for $23.

I had never seen such an ornate mortise lock.
And the locking mechanism still works.
All came from the citywide stash last weekend that my
husband picked up.  All going on ebay.

Crazy Junkin' Weekend

Last weekend the little town we moved from had their
annual city-wide garage sales weekend.
I think the first one was in 1989,
and we haven't missed one since then.

We decided to drive up
and spend a couple days saling and visiting friends
before going on to Omaha
for my family reunion.

We drove two vehicles up to our former stomping grounds,
because my husband was going to head home afterwards
to take care of the livestock (cats).
It's a good thing he had his little truck.
On Friday morning I sent him to a garage sale that
had looked promising in the newspaper.
I went a different direction in my van.

He called me over an hour later to say he needed more money.
And that he was still at the same sale.

Almost all of the "junk" in these pics is from that sale!
He was very pleased with himself, to say the least.
(Plus I picked up a van-load, so stay tuned for some pics of what I got.)

Then he headed home,
and I headed to my family reunion.

Citywide Garage Sale Bonanza

Our little town had their citywide garage sales this past weekend.  About 200 garage sales - spread over Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I am exhausted.  Most of that time the temps soared in the high 90s.  But whoever said that junking would be easy?

Thursday things were a little thin.  Quite a few sales popped up, but no big hauls.  Until about 11 am,
I came across one that was pretty great. One of the many items I purchased was this Pillsbury sign, and yes, it is old.  And yes, I am keeping it.

I am looking for garden decor to sell at my "outdoor" booth, and that garage sale had that in spades. I got the oil can, metal table, wooden keg lid, and metal birds there.  I am keeping the birds (forever).

Friday the weather was just as steamy.  I had driven by a great looking sale on Thursday night, but they were adamant that they weren't selling until 8 am Friday morning. So, I dropped my husband off there at 7 am for him to play the waiting game, while I visited other sales. Paid $10 for the baby carriage, sold for $28.)

He definitely scored the most, including the above buggy frame and 1901 mailbox.
Paid $4 for this one, sold for $28.)

Saturday I was sorely tempted to just sleep in, but what if I could just find a few little things?  Our community had a pretty severe storm the night before, so people were a little slow setting up.  It was a little spotty at first, but then we hit a fun one.  I purchased these kissing concrete cuties...
Bought for $20, sold for $65.

...And FOUR cast iron patio pieces. Bought for $50, sold for $121.  And just when I thought the junking bonanza was over, I got a call that a bench I had left a $15 bid on was mine for the taking.  (Along with all of the free clothes I wanted.)  Well, yes.  Thank you very much.  And special thanks to everyone who was brave enough to man garage sales in this record breaking heat.

Adding A Pierced Tin Cap To Our Garden Shed

I don't have alot of things that you would be jealous of.
But I do have a 1895 killer garden shed.

This is the view from the south side.

I don't know if it was originally a shed,
chicken coop or privy.
Love the moons on the back.

We had purchased two strips of decorative roof strips earlier this summer.
We immediately decided that they would look great....

 adorning the mossy shake-shingle roof.

I only got them attached to the edges of the roof
that I could access on a ladder without climbing the roof.

I think my shed is enjoying her new roof-do.

City-Wide Garage Sales Weekend

So last weekend was my little town's city-wide garage sales -- over 200 garage sales. About 20% start Thursday, another 40% start Friday, and on the official city-wide day of Saturday the other 40% start.  Normally, I am on top of my game those three days, but we were out-of-town until mid-afternoon Thursday, and I needed to leave town again by 9:30 am Saturday.

So, it was a little hard to figure out which
sales had already been open the day before and therefore were a waste of my time.
Blue milk can I bought for $5, sold for $27.

Nevertheless, we did our best and picked up a few nice items.
This little adirondack stool is going on ebay.
Bought for $8, SOLD FOR $30.

 Love this antique plant holder,
also heading to ebay.

 Antique carved soapstone Chinese vase.
Bought for $5, sold for $18.

 Hubley doorstop.
Bought for $3, sold for $66.

My SECOND incubator table, identical to one I bought in April.
Already sold the first one.

These vintage ceramic angels are not the type of item I normally purchase,
but they were so cute in this vintage upcycled box.
Bought for $5, sold for $14.

Red and blue, just in time for July.
Notice the cute cart basket behind the coooler.
Bought for $45, sold for $70.

Sweet little stoneware bowl,
I would SO keep it if it weren't blue.

Smalltown City-Wide Garage Sales 5.20.2017

My husband and I drove away on a foggy, cold Saturday morning to attend a very small neighboring town's citywide garage sales.  They were supposed to have about 16, but the rain kept a few people from opening up.  Nevertheless, we managed to get a few treasures:

Hard plastic santa light - works!
He is just a symbol of the boxes of vintage Christmas
that I bought that day

I do like majolica.  But I don't care for this dog plate
That must be why I keep finding them,
this will be the third of this pattern that I have sold.
Bought for $1, sold for $35.

It must have been a fish themed day.
Starting with these guys.

Victorian Aquarium Stand.

It is really beautiful.
Going on ebay.
Purchased for $50, sold for $90.

Saturdays Vintage Finds 4.22.2017

My husband and I got up early Saturday morning to hit the junking road.  We did flea market & garage sale sandwich -- with a citywide garage sale being the middle of the sandwich. I bought the most from this guy, including the interesting leather chair in the third picture.

I got a couple of sleds and this great Country Club Beer clock at the Flea.  The rest came from the twenty or so citywide garage sales that we attended. I'll need to do a little more research on the clock to figure out the best way to sell it. Country Club Clock purchased for $25, sold for $90 on Craigslist.

My favorite purchase -- the decorative rooftop tin with star and clover motif.  I had just seen something similar (still on a roof) earlier in the morning and thought how cool it looked. It will get attached to the top of my garden shed. Old bike bought for $10, sold for $35 in outdoor booth.
Bought two sleds for $10 each, and sold each for $36 each.

Friday's Vintage Finds 8.05.2016

Friday my husband and I headed out early to a small town
city-wide garage sale event.  It started raining at our very first stop.
But we found this wishing well, so it was worth the wet hair.

The rain seemed to keep many people away,
which was good for us.
Love this little donkey, he is covered in moss.

This was our best find.

I've purchased a TON of metal lawn chairs in my time,
but this is my first "pie crust" pattern.

Never Enough Quilts

As I mentioned in my last post, we "sailed" while attending my family reunion in Nebraska.  Click on that post here.

All of these quilts or quilt pieces came from that small town city-wide garage sale, actually just from one sale.

The number of quilts I purchased may seem a little extreme, or perhaps more like hoarding -- but as the sign says "Never Enough Quilts" (sign also purchased from the same sale!).

The above two red ones are my favorites, I paid $25 for the pair.
I'll probably sell them around Christmas time.

This quilt top had a lot of nice feedsack squares.

I bought two sections (meaning good size pieces) of crazy quilt.
They were only a couple bucks each, and I'll find a project for them.

I also bought bag of quilt blocks,
they sell well on ebay.

I bought these pieces thinking they were quilt blocks,
they turned out to be a deconstructed quilt top
(someone had cut it apart.)  So I reunited them again,
just in a banner form.

Blue Hearts & The End Of My Blog

Early on during the corona virus, I did this project. When we put scalloped wood trim on the guest cottage door, we had some of the trim ...
