Sunday Flea Finds

We arrrived at our favorite flea market by 6 am today

and I think it paid off.

Two wooden ladders, paid $5 each.

Two wheelbarrows: paid $10 each and sold each for $24.

My husband surprised me with this little beauty,

he knows I like scary dolls.

A cool looking scale, only $10.

Sold for $35.

Old Mirror with surprisingly good frame, paid $10.

Always looking for sleds. Paid $10.

This one has a nice aged alligator finish.

This one I kept.

Boiler, and yes I already have one that I can't sell.

Now I will have two that aren't selling, but only paid $10.

Mr. Log Cabin also sold me this.

Three Conservo Steamer Cooker things,

still in their ORIGINAL Crate. What?!!!

Probably from around 1907.

Here is the backside of the crate.

Apparently Mrs. Winslow had a hard time selling things too.

Sunday Flea Finds

Even years ago...

on the way home...

after visiting our son and daughter-in-law

for the weekend....

we would stop at this same Sunday morning flea market.

Who knew....

that years later ....

we would be living only 20 minutes .....

from the same flea market.

We go nearly every Sunday morning....

early.....

and it never disappoints.

It is about the sum of our junk hunting right now.

I need to document our finds more faithfully

in pictures.

I am being super selective in what I purchase for resale. One of the things on my "do-not-buy list" is "project" pieces. You know -- the ones that take more time than they are worth. But sometimes I am sorely tempted, and I give in...

Like this cute little vintage wooden wheelbarrow.

Great colors, just missing...a whole side!

I decided the best option was to make it looked "patched"

rather than "matched".

100 year old hooks...but on ugly boards.

I had some extra baseboard leftover from my

kitchen floor makeover (see post here) .

I like the vintage look of the hooks and baseboard together.

We recently bought a single old drawer for the two great pulls
that were on it, which we sold on ebay.

That left the drawer itself...

The drawer had this great wainscoting on the bottom.

Well, you just can't put that out on the curb...

I trimmed off the drawer "lip" that made it sit ascew.
I added the shelf.
Then a little painting and distressing.

Old drawer upcycled into small shelf.

Feather & Fur Flea Market Finds -- 4.15.2016

I went into this weekend knowing it was my second biggest buying weekend of the year. That I needed to be well prepared, gassed up, plenty of cash...none of which happened. Despite some amateurish slip-ups I still got quite a few good finds.

(I actually know all of the people that I got to pose for my photos this year.)
The newspaper I looked at advertised the small town "Swap Meet" for Saturday and Sunday. I just happened to be travelling to an out-of-town garage sale Friday morning (not even super early) when I saw that most of the flea market was set up already! ARGH!
They said that the vendors and Craig's List got the "correct" Friday morning start date.

This young man agreed to deliver my newly purchased "general store"

display case (resting under the blanket) to my vintage

decorator store location.

Yes, I bought the wire basket too.

As always, there was a plethora of farm

animals and birds to distract.

My husband chided me for the picture being

upside down, but I just purchased it for the frame.

Love the crusty animal feeders I find there.

I haven't found any quilts in quite awhile,

and this weekend I picked up three.

This X-stitch one is the only one I have a photo of.

Two great sets of antlers, homemade duck decoy

and aluminum cooler. My aluminum coolers are

starting to accumulate.

We are crazy for croquet,

so loved the piece from an old box.

Most of what you are looking at will

become planters or garden décor.

I am going to (hopefully) take off these little metal

conveyer belt scoops and use as planters.

The basket upcycled from paper was purchased

by my mailman about an hour after this photo

was taken. He does get first dibs, and great prices.

I don't know why these guys are lollygagging

around when there is so much pricing to be done.

What I REALLY needed were bigger pieces to

display on. I picked up three dreamy ones.

It Pays To Squirrel Away Metal Junk For Spring

I have an "outdoor" booth where I sell items that can make it through sun, ice, rain and WIND. It is also exposed to "customers" 24 hours a day. So, in the winter months I don't leave much of value out there -- but still have surprising good sales.

Well, the winds they are achangin' -- spring is peeping at here and there. Time to clean and restock my outdoor booth. With what? This time of year there are still no garage sales, and very few auctions.

Like the wise squirrel, I have learned to bury a few nuts for the lean times. I found some great metal stuff in October and November of last year and most of it went behind the garden shed.

Look at this great teal metal lawn chair(rocker) that I found back there!

The great thing about metal -- it doesn't matter if it get a little rustier and more chippy over the winter.

Just think what other treasures might be waiting for me back there....
Time to start sorting the stack of rusty gold and getting it priced. Spring will be here full force soon and I will need that area for potting up some succulents!
