Our loveseat finally arrived via UPS.

It fits into the guest cottage perfectly.

The living room seats four,

which is the maximum sleep number.

We donated our 8 year old TV to the cottage,

and bought ourselves a new one.

I had actually bought five pillows for this living space,

and only two fit.

Tour Of Stonecrest Cottage Kitchen

 

We are within a few days of launching on AirBNB.  It has taken so long, that it is hard to believe it is about to happen.  A few more tiny details.  Above is an overview of the kitchen.  Tiny, but everything you might need.  And nicer than my own in several ways.

The hickory table.  Seats four, extra chairs in the closet.

Some dishes are new, some are from the thrift store.

Since it only sleeps four I don't have to have huge stacks of dishes.

Part of the farm animal theme that runs throughout.

Full sized appliances and a microwave.

It is definitely going to be helpful having a second

kitchen when we host the family reunion next year.

Front Porch Tour Of Stonecrest Cottage

 We are basically on the home stretch with Stonecrest Cottage Guest House.  The porch is done.  I may add a string of lights, and next year we will be adding some plants. But we are calling it good.  I want it to be simple and sustainable.

We tried very hard to use what we had.

We already had the bench.  It will be handy to sit on while people remove their shoes 

(wishful thinking?)

I also find it handy to set packages by the door while I unlock.

My husband made this tray a few months ago,

as well as one for our own "mud room".

(Corona Virus Isolation Project #10).

These motel chairs were sitting in our chicken run, they like this location better.

The mesh table and milk crate are all leftover from my antique stock.

Even the cattle fencing were segments left on our property when we bought it.

I will probably end up painting the chairs.

We have had the porch swing for awhile.

It is oak and STURDY.

The indoor/outdoor rug was from out NW Missouri house.

I mentioned the quilt in one of my last blogs -- I saved it from the brink.

The front door was left from the previous owner in our garage.

We just added some detail and paint.

Even the straw mats are not new -- 50 cents each at a garage sale.

The wagon wheels on either side of the steps we did actually buy for this project.

$5 for the pair. My husband and son rolled all of these huge rugs into place at the base of the porch. Next spring the flowers will go in front of the wheels and 

on the sides of the porch.  

I can see guests (and us!) really hanging out on this porch.

Porch Quilt For Stonecrest Cottage

 

I am purging like a crazy woman. Getting ready of all of my antique stock.

I recently sold most of my quilts, but I kept this one back.

I knew that I wanted one for the cottage front porch.

And this was in deplorable condition 

(which means I would have had to sell it for next to nothing.)

So I got my scissors, needle and thread out.  On one end I had to cut three rows of squares off because they were so worn.  Then I wrapped this bias tape stuff (which I already had) around the cut end.  And stitched it on by hand.  Then I actually tackled the opposite side -- which only had some damage on the first row of squares.  Instead of hacking off any more quilt, I dug out some feedsack material and wrapped that on both sides of the last row of squares.  Not only will it protect the damaged area, but it will prevent future wear.  

So I am left with a very usable front porch quilt.

And you are left with a preview of the front porch.

Flea Market Items for Cottage Kitchen

 

Our guest cottage is 99% completed by the contractor.  Now just getting it furnished and stocked.

We have purchased more "new" than I would have like.  New mattresses, new loveseat, two new chairs, new pots & pans.  Our furnishings budget is thin.  So I took stock of what we still needed for the kitchen and went to an early Sunday morning flea market.  I was pleased to get most of what we still needed.  This stack of bowls with lids -- $3 for all.

$1 for the large pyrex mixing bowl,

and $3 for the clear pyrex set.

$3 each for the heavy duty cookie trays,

and just $1 for the enamelware one.

$3 for the square pyrex baking pan,

and $1 for the Revereware skillet.

I still need a few things, but the basics are covered.

After we get pictures and curtains hung I will post pics of the guest cottage.

Last Sunday's Flea Finds

I purchased these items, while my husband was doing

some heavy duty selling at the flea market.

(Our first selling experience there, and it went well.)

I'm always a sucker for old clocks.

UPDATE:  A year later this clock moved into our new guest cottage!

....and transferware.  These pieces had some damage,

but I decided to keep these and sell some other pieces I have.

Most of these pieces also made it into the guest cottage!

Speaking of keeping....

you can see that this little pitcher has already been

assimilated.

Hickory Furniture From College Of The Ozarks

 Saturday we went to an auction at College Of The Ozarks,

on a whim.  I wish I had taken photos of everything that was offered.

Furniture, looms, science equipment, yarn, lighting, books, framed

artwork, and hickory log furniture.

 This is one of  the bases for the four tables

that I purchased.  I plan to sell three and keep one for the guest cottage that

we are planning on building.

 I do love the look of them.

 And these are the two side tables that I purchased.

I may end up keeping one of them for the guest cottage.

Such a great size and look to them.
