Can't Stop Antiquing

Officially my antiquing business is closed.  Maybe I should call it a soft closure?  Because after 30 years of junking, it is hard to quit cold turkey.

I saw these hanging victorian chandeliers on an on-line auction.  So I made some low-ball bids and managed to get three of them.  Then what?  Too fragile and large to ship on ebay safely.
So I put them on facebook marketplace and sold all three the day after I listed them.  Cha-ching.  But I really AM trying to stop buying for resale.

Crazy Junkin' Weekend

Last weekend the little town we moved from had their
annual city-wide garage sales weekend.
I think the first one was in 1989,
and we haven't missed one since then.

We decided to drive up
and spend a couple days saling and visiting friends
before going on to Omaha
for my family reunion.

We drove two vehicles up to our former stomping grounds,
because my husband was going to head home afterwards
to take care of the livestock (cats).
It's a good thing he had his little truck.
On Friday morning I sent him to a garage sale that
had looked promising in the newspaper.
I went a different direction in my van.

He called me over an hour later to say he needed more money.
And that he was still at the same sale.

Almost all of the "junk" in these pics is from that sale!
He was very pleased with himself, to say the least.
(Plus I picked up a van-load, so stay tuned for some pics of what I got.)

Then he headed home,
and I headed to my family reunion.

Junking Trip To The Old Stomping Grounds

We needed to make a trip north this past weekend to check on our other house
that is still for sale and do a little cleaning there.
As soon as I realized we were going, I checked the on-line
auction calendar and realized that I could bid and pick up items
during the time we would be there.  And hit a flea market on our way out of town.
The above pic is after we unloaded the van after the weekend!

 While at our north house,
I got a text reminding me that I had purchased these two
tubs months ago and had forgotten about them.
So we were able to pack those up as well.

From the on-line auction I purchased
bits and pieces of newer weathervanes.
At this point it looks like I have enough parts
for two complete ones, and one partial.

At the flea market I got four great pieces of wood,
including this cedar cross-section.
Chopping block?

I got all of these junky screens for $1.
I plan on using them to line the walls of my
future antique store booth.

Junking Marathon Thursday

I travelled to Nebraska with a friend of mine
(didn't get her picture at all!)
We stayed with my dad and his wife,
and my sister showed up Thursday to visit.
I love this photo, my dad is telling the dog to look at the camera!

So, early Thursday morning we rolled out
to hit my dad's bi-annual neighborhood garage sales.
Major threat of rain, so not as many open as usual.

Remember, I am supposed to looking for outdoor stuff.
Because that is the only "junk" i am selling now.
So why did I get three stacks of plates?
Everybody knows dishes are not selling now.
But I got a set of six Audubon by Meakin.
To keep.  To use.

And four old ironstone "flowy" blue.
Not to keep, but so gorgeous.
And actually 6 longaberger plates (not shown)
but gold, which I would like to use at our new house.

An hour after arriving back home,
and getting unloaded from Nebraska ....
we had to do a pick up of  local on-line auction stuff I had won.
Like this giant carved morel mushroom. -- paid $13 for it.
I actually got some pretty awesome vintage outdoorsy
stuff from that auction, but we are keeping most of it.
So it stayed in (or on top of) the van,
which left with my husband this morning for our new southern property.

Metal pot scrubber came from on-line auction, paid $6 for it.
Stack of quilt blocks came from Nebraska garage sale.
Bought for $10, sold for $29.

In Nebraska I picked up this
Danish? Flemish? Swedish?
vintage bonnet.  I was trying to show how it looked....

but there is only one way to show off the "wings".
Going on ebay sometime after we only have
one house to worry about.
Purchased for $1, sold for $10 on ebay.

Last Weekend's Vintage Finds

Last Thursday I visited my father in Nebraska,
(and managed to visit several garage sales as well.)
This was the coolest item I bought -- a large sterling silver pendant.
After research, I think the purple stone is called charoite.
I will be listing it on ebay.
Paid $1, sold for $54 on ebay.

Saturday we picked up items that I had won at a local on-line auction.
I got this rag basket for $2 and ....

this Watering Can for $6
(probably due to the bullet holes.)

Saturdays Vintage Finds 08.19.2017

I already mentioned that we made a whirlwind trip to Springfield, MO last weekend.  We had a couple of discretionary hours Saturday morning -- which is when we hit a flea market, and an auto swap shop.  We didn't let any moss grow under our feet.

The flea market was just north of Springfield, and we have gone there before.  This time there were not very many dealers set up (unbeknownst to us, they were all at the car swap meet).  But we did find one dealer that had some interesting stuff.   All of this came from him.

The cooler is the coolest, right?

Vintage Car Side Show

During a quick road trip to Springfield Missouri,
we were staying at a budget hotel
and the parking lot was full of car guys.
(Look closely to see the rat hood ornament).

Turns out there was a huge auto swap meet at the county fair grounds.
So we popped in to look - for fun and maybe to find other vintage items.

Takin' a look under the hood.

Plenty of interesting people and vehicles,
 "We Don't Rent Pigs".

Some people were prepared to cart around their finds.

Some rented scooters to cart themselves around.

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign.

My husband, who tried his had at door painting this summer,
was particularly interested in this booth.
Click here to see the truck doors that he painted recently.

He called this scene, "A Set of Tires and a Couple Spares".
Found an awesome vintage box,
but out of our price range.

Wahoo Nebraska Vintage Auction Finds

On the way back from our spring break buying trip to Nebraska, we made a little detour to Wahoo, Nebraska.  (Really, that is the name.) Wahoo is an Indian word meaning "burning bush".

Bought for  $3, sold for $54.
On that particular Saturday there were two auctions in town.  One in a lovely warm building with a bathroom.  The other in an unheated barn with no facilities.  Guess which one I choose to attend? And my husband went to the more "primitive" one.  We both got some fun things.

He purchased the manhole cover (love this, may have to keep it).  Can you imagine a path of manhole covers in your yard?

He also purchased this cool old milk can with a brass railroad tag.  Probably heading to ebay.
Paid $23, sold for $61.

I purchased this transferware ironstone set, which I will probably sell separately.

And I bought an entire set of this Haviland Limoges china for a song, but I am having problems identifying the pattern -- they made over 3000 patterns.

Nebraska Farm Finds

Spring break in Nebraska.  Three years in a row now.

There might not be sand, palm trees (or sun)
but this is our preferred spring break destination.

This is the third year that we have purchased vintage
junk from Richard.  This year he convinced his brother to bring stuff.

How would you feel if you pulled up to a scenic farm house,
saw all this great stuff on display and realized that is was
all for your personal shopping pleasure.
(Yes, I went home with everything in this photo.)
Bought claw feet for $20, sold for $60.

Both brothers were pushed around in
this old baby stroller.
It now sits in my Missouri front yard.

It was nice having two men that were able to explain
to me what some of this stuff was.
The three pieces on the right bottom corner are barn
door rollers that are marked 1901.
Paid $30 for the rollers, sold for $152.

Oh, and here is something else both brothers rode on...

Hastings Train Depot

I rode a passenger train once in my life.  I am not talking about a tourist train, or a "scenic railway."

I am talking the kind of passenger train that takes you from one location to another --
through the center of Nebraska.

And we left from this Burlington train depot
in Hastings, Nebraska...

I am glad that I made it back for a reunion.

 It was renovated in 2000
and turned into a lighting center.
Happily, it continues to be a centerpiece of the community.

Blue Hearts & The End Of My Blog

Early on during the corona virus, I did this project. When we put scalloped wood trim on the guest cottage door, we had some of the trim ...
