Vintage Framed Chalkboard Bible Verse

My SON and DIL (daughter-in-law) visited a couple weeks ago.
We managed to fit an amazing amount of activity in one little weekend.
When she mentioned that she was interested in making a chalkboard Bible verse,
we were all in.  Let's squeeze in one more activity.

First we had to shop for the vintage frame.
The right size and right amount of raised ornamental detail.
I had DIL paint two coats of an off-white on frame.
I came back at the end to do the fun part of dry-brushing
on a little gold highlighting.

SON was in charge of cutting a piece of fiberboard to size
and giving it two coats of black chalk paint.
Then we coaxed my talented husband into doing the
chalkboard art that she wanted with a Chalk Marker.

One awesome family project.
One happy (and sweet!) DIL.

ANOTHER Child's Vintage Easel Chalkboard.

ANOTHER Child's Vintage Easel Chalkboard, check out my last one here. Looking back, I think I have redone and sold two additional ones.

I still haven't sold my last one, so why buy another one?
A $4 price tag, that is why.

I painted the chalkboard paint on what used to be the work service,
and secured it so that it would not flop down anymore.

Then I added a "Penmanship" graphic to the scrolling window.
I am getting quicker at giving these little pieces of the past a makeover.

Major Work On Child's Vintage Easel Chalkboard

I picked up this little cutie for a song, otherwise I would not have messed with it.
There were no "graphics" left on the the winding window at the top, so I found one of the vintage posters that they now sell in all antique shops and cut it to size.  Much gluing, clipping and time later....only to discover I did it backwards!  argh  The above is a picture of it backwards.

More gluing, clipping and time passing.
I got the top part done.

Then I attached chains to both sides so that the
legs would stand up.

Then I repainted the chalkboard section.
So cute, so worth it.

My Vintage Bridal Show Offerings

My vintage store that I sell at is hosting a Bridal Show in next week.  I will try to take pictures of the vintage inspired ideas at the show.  This post is highlighting some of the items I am taking to the event.

My husband is usually the chalkboard artist in the family.
He made this for the event.

I had worked on three old windows a few weeks ago.
Painting the back of the window so that the wall adhesive graphics would pop.
After doing the windows that way, I started thinking about some
embossed wallpaper that I had leftover....

I actually just cut it to size and used the wallpaper glue to
adhere it to the backside.  So technically, the paper was
backwards.

But it was super easy to do and gave a great effect.

I did it for this one too.
Added handles on both.
For all of the above I used Dollar Tree
adhesive wall stickers for the graphics.
Sold for $24, had $5 in it.

This was an assemblage of a board that I had,
old photo that I had, and a couple of Michael's letters
that I got for 50 cents each.
Spent about $3 for materials and sold it for $17.

For these last ones i used Dollar Tree wall graphics
alphabet stickers, spraypainted, then peeled off the stickers.
Sold for $13, had $2 in it.

I was able to use some of the letters
a second time.
Spent about $3 on materials and sold it for $17.

Here are some of them in my booth.
Along with lace hankies, lace tablecloths,
frames and rhinestone jewelry.
Ready to roll for the Bridal Fair.

June Local On-Line Auction

I have had other posts concerning local on-line auctions I participate in.  The photos of the estate items are usually dark or blurry, and hard to really get a handle on what you are bidding on.  I've learned by now to really scrutinize the photos, and bid a percentage on faith.  I thought I would give you examples of what I've been dealing with:

Take a gander at this photo.  What here looks appealing?  Is there a chance that
jar on the left could be a cool old general store candy jar?  Maybe.

Yes!  This time the gamble paid off.

Or how about this?
Ok, cool book thing on the back, but what type of bike is it?

Sorry, my photo is not much better.
Turns out it is a Monark, in good condition.  Bingo.

The description just called this "two chalkboards".
Old?  New? Damaged? Sizes?

Here is the smaller one after my husband finished with it.

Again -- old or new?
What is under that top white thingie?

Perfectly old, and with a couple pieces of marble thrown in to boot.

This group was my best surprise.
The shutters were wood, not plastic.
The drawers had great glass knobs.
The cabinet doors on the left will make great signs.
It turned out there were FOUR of the cool windows,
all with cool textured glass which did not show at all in this photo.

TWO Framed Christmas Chalkboards

I have to give it to my husband, he is the chalkboard master.  So, even if I have to wait a few weeks for him to get "back to the old chalkboard", it is worth the wait.

I had these two matching framed chalkboards ready
for an autumn greeting, but it took him awhile
to get to them...

so now they are greeting winter.

September Western Hoedown Theme At Rusty Chandelier

Traditionally September has a western hoedown theme at the Rusty Chandelier, where I sell my junk.  This is to compliment the Harvest Hoedown Parking Lot Sale that rolls around each September.

Katie did a bang-up job bringin' a western twist to our Rusty Chandelier.

This was my contribution to the Western Hoedown theme.

My husband did the chalkboard art.
I love how it peeks over the top of the wheat.

I was blessed to find a huge collection of these
mid-century horse show ribbons a couple weeks ago.
I couldn't resist adding some to the chalkboard.

Lots of neutrals and rust.

St. Joseph is a great western town.
Home of the Pony Express,
last home of Jesse James,
longtime home of Stetson Hats.

This is an overview of the main display table as you come in.

Don't you wish?

Cubby shelf was dragged in from the
Outdoor Store.  What a great look.

My favorite part of the vestibule display
is the potato fork.

Everything a chic cowgirl could want.

He looks a little creepy, doesn't he?
The loveseat behind him has been upcycled
and has a nice solid look to it.

Pull on your boots and come on out to visit.

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine #3

HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY.  Today I will be spending the entire day at the St Joseph Antique Show.  My husband was kind enough to do Valentine CHALKBOARD #3 for this special event.  (Click here to see #1 and here to see #2)

Remember to hug your sweetie.

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine #2

A few days ago my husband surprised me.   I came downstairs one morning to find Valentine chalkboard #1 (click here to see #1) looking back at me.  The windows started out as a roadside rescue (click here to see that blog.) No surprise when I took #1 into my booth and it sold immediately.  It took about a week for me to beg and plead (and bake) my husband into doing Valentine chalkboard #2.  He took it into my booth on his way to work yesterday, without any photo documentation.

So I took a few pics of it today on my way to do errands -- and glad I did -- it sold a few hours later.

Two more window chalkboards left.  I'll have to do some major baking (I'm thinking carrot cupcakes with cream cheese icing) to get a chalkboard ready in time for the St-Joseph-MO-Antique-Show&Vintage-Market over Valentine's weekend.

Upcycled Window Chalkboard Valentine

So, in December my true love gave to me: seven old windows.  Three sold over the Christmas season and I hadn't gotten around to doing another design on one yet.  Well, my husband surprised me with one this week.

Yeah, he used to be an art teacher.
Can you tell?

Of course I am still selling it,
but I got to enjoy it for awhile.

My True Love Gave To Me: SEVEN OLD WINDOWS

My husband is a great one for roadside rescues.  I think it has something to do with his penny-pinching ways.  A couple weeks ago he managed to get SEVEN of these in his little car.  They were kind of big and plain so I considered pricing them and throwing them in my outside booth "as is".  But they did have great green chippy paint.. I thought about making one into a chalkboard...so you might as well do an assembly line.

They were very dirty and they had to be cleaned inside the house because of the cold weather.   Which means a lot of the dirt ended up on my floor, which I also had to clean.

Each window received an old metal handle and two other rusty adornments on the top.  I faithfully screwed each little thing on, because I HATE it when glued-on trinkets fall off.

Each window received three coats of chalkboard spraypaint (after I painted the first one with chalkboard paint and I realized it would take forever for 7x3 to dry).  This meant I had to tape them off, which was a pain.  But not as much of a pain as dashing out in 20 degree temps to spraypaint each window three times.

I was determined not to purchase anything for this project, so not all of the hangers match.  So some received chains, some rusty wire.

Primed all with chalk.  Decided to just create three with chalkboard Christmas artwork.  That way I can wait until after the holidays to sell the others.

Blue Hearts & The End Of My Blog

Early on during the corona virus, I did this project. When we put scalloped wood trim on the guest cottage door, we had some of the trim ...
