New Look To My MAY Vintage Booth

I was enjoying my metal, rusty, primitive, farm fresh

 look so much in my outdoor booth

that I decided to bring the look inside.

I have two booths side-by-side in a vintage décor store.

This meant tearing it all apart,

replacing most of the furniture with more primitive pieces.

With all of the purchasing that I've been doing lately,

it was not too difficult to find enough to fill both indoor booths

with the look I wanted.

Now it is just a matter of deciding --

does this go inside or outside?

Of course anything cloth or wood goes inside.

This whole thought process helps me to be very selective

for the "look" when I am buying.

Less foofoo, less bright colors, less glass.

At least for now.

More nature, more natural colors, more rust,

more chippy paint.

Sometimes it is all about the enjoyment factor.

And this is what I'm enjoying right now.

Here are a couple of picts of the baggage cart I

purchased last weekend.

I hope it is not too hidden under the potting table,

but you got to be able to display merchandise.

Upcycled Used-Up Paint Brushes For Planter Decor

I saw some project a few months ago that incorporated old paintbrushes.

Since then I started keeping all my used-up paintbrushes.

Some of them have several great colors on them.

 

Naturally, I have forgotten whatever the project was that I was collecting for.

I need to do more pinning on pinterest.

But when I uncovered this coffee tin with paint drippings...

Hmmm....

Time to unearth the old paintbrushes.

I just dipped them in chalk paint and let them dry.

They should do just fine outdoors.

I made a few extra for future use.

Maybe some day I will remember why I originally kept

 saving the used-up paintbrushes.

White Medicine Cabinet -- Furniture Redo "LEONA"

I saw this cabinet at an auction and was about to pass it by, when I decided to look inside. 

LOVED the wainscoting in the back of the shelves.  Didn't love the tar on the front or the broken door.  So when I got it home I just removed the door.

Some of it was a lovely chippy white and some was dark brown, so I painted the dark areas a grayish blue to really make that wainscoting stand out.

After a little distressing, it is ready for the antique show.  I am naming it Leona after a street in St Joseph, MO.

Saturday's Vintage Finds 4.30.2016

I actually did major junking on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Two auctions and lots of garage sales thrown in there.  I'm trying to crawl out from under the pile of loot that was collected.  Here is a sampling, and I plan to take some photos of my loaded booth later.


The Friday night and Saturday auctions were: in the rain, in the cold, and coincided with a huge local flea market.  So there were very few dealers there, and I took advantage of not having the usual competition.  I was bidding almost quicker than my husband could take charge of the merchandise and run it back to the van.  But we must make hay while the sun shines -- or buy junk while standing in 6" of water. I got some exceptional deals.

are all going on ebay with the exception of the blue jars.

This little flower frog birdie was made by Weller.

Bought for $5, sold for $78.

This little plaid book has some tales from Scotland.

Sold for $7.

This shot glass is from Los Angeles,

old enough that the phone numbers only had four digits.

Bought for $2, sold for $14.

I hardly ever get jewelry because of the high prices

it brings.  But I managed to get a whole box of assorted

pretties at this sale, and this beauty is sterling.

Amazingly pristine (even after all of the rain).

Fairy Garden Picnic Shelter

I have a friend who makes some very creative fairy furniture.

She made the table and chairs inside of the shelter.

I got the former-nativity picnic shelter idea from her.

 

Here is a close-up of her table and chairs.

The chairs have lids for seats.

She did the wire construction herself.

I added another one of my little bonsai pine trees to this one.

I also added a bit of bling to the shelter roof.

Because fairies need picnic shelters too.

  I usually sell these for $24.

Rusty Junk Yard Art Sculptures

 

This week I went on a spring junk buying trip to Lincoln.  My dad's neighborhood has sales and this guy was one of the garage sales.  He had some normal "junk" besides the sculptures, but I loved the rusty junk art sculptures.

I could have brought him some raw

materials if I had known ahead of time.

Batch #3 Of Vintage Planters To Sell -- Terra Cotta

Anyone who has used terra-cotta planters knows their terrible secret:  they are water thieves.  They suck the valuable moisture away from the plants and soil and throw it to the wind.  It is hard to acknowledge this, because they looks so natural and beautiful.

So I counteracted the problem.  Each of these has a waterproof interior pot.  Most of them are ones I purchased with plants in them from the garden center.  Some I had to cut the top portion off so hide them properly inside of the terra cotta pot.  All of the natural beauty, none of the dark side.

Some of these terra cotta pots have wonderful, natural patina and some I enhanced with painted moss last year (click here to see that post.) 

All of these have a matching undertray, I love how that rounds out the look.

I'm going to keep my eyes open for more horseshoes.  Love the look inside the planters.  It would be a great arbor for a fairy garden as well.

Saturday's Farm Auction With "Mr. 89"

My husband and I attended a two-day farm auction near us last weekend.  It started Friday evening and ran all day on Saturday.  HUGE.  Very interesting.  Lots of great junk, nice eye candy.

 They ran two lines most of the time, so we split up to divide and conquer.  My number was 89 and the auctioneer called my husband "Mr. 89"  He certainly got to do his share of bidding / trading / hauling / packing.

The weather was fabulous, and it was delightful to be out in the fresh air.  We came home with two van-loads full of treasures.  I will have some photos of my vintage finds in my next post.

Rusty Junk Cupcake Tins Repurposed Into Succulent Samplers

I loved these little 6 opening cupcake tins from the moment I saw them.  I loved the rust and the pressed tin sunburst pattern. But I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them.  However, most rusty metal items I come across this time of year gets turned into planters.

I love how the cupcake planters turned out.  Like six different flavors of cupcakes.  Six different textures and colors.  All low maintenance succulents. 

Upcycled Hodge Podge Desk Furniture Redo -- "ERIKA"

Meet Erika, an uncycled hodge podge of a desk that I purchased at the Fur & Feathers Flea Market (click here to view that post). 

The upcycled part of this desk happened long before I met her.  I think there are bits and pieces of at least three pieces of furniture incorporated in to her.  (We have to remember, this generation didn't invent upcycling -- we just slapped a name on it.)

Erika had some different types and shades of wood, so the two light coats of white chalk paint helped alleviate some of the disjointed feel.  It also really highlighted the incised areas of decoration.  I also did a light distressing, and liked how well that turned out.
